There is no gainsaying the fact that Ibadan-based fashion designer, Bashy Kuti’s profile is on the rise. Designer to several big names, one might not know how the fame of this elitist clothier has soared unless after attending the 50th birthday celebration of the chairman, Odi Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Yemi Alli. The party took place last Tuesday at Darlington Hall, Ilupeju.

Kuti, who attended the event stylishly dressed in all-white attire, was immediately besieged by admirers as soon as he strolled into the venue. Accorded a VIP reception, not a few commended his stylish disposition that has since become his trademark.

It has been 10 years since Lanre, one of the sons of the late Baba Adinni of Nigeria, Alhaji Wahab Folawiyo, was widowed. His wife, Fadeke, one of the daughters of the late Chief TOS Benson, passed on in 2004. The sad occurrence which took place four years into their fruitful marriage cast a pall of gloom on the deceased’s family and friends.

Years after her death, Lanre has yet to give marriage another shot. Content with raising their only child, Amil, the widower has deliberately shied away from the issue of remarriage. Utterly discreet, only very few have been able to ascertain if, indeed, he has a love interest.

Of recent there has been unconfirmed talk which suggests he is set to tie the knots for a second time. The supposed bride-to-be is rumoured to be a non-Nigerian.

It is no longer news that former Kwara State First Lady, Toyin Saraki, clocked 50 penultimate weekend. To celebrate the occasion, she was hosted to a party in Kwara State. Those who thought that was the end of the celebration had a rethink last weekend when a more exquisite groove took place in London last weekend.

As expected, the highbrow venue was besieged by big names in the society, most of who flew into London from Nigeria to be part of the celebration. The well-executed party will remain the talk of town for a long time to come owing to the resources committed to it.

Whither Farida Waziri?

For many years, she held sway as the chairperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, an anti-corruption agency until she was eased out of office in 2011.

A native of Benue State, Waziri’s visibility began to experience a steady decline shortly after she was removed from office and this has been the status quo. While many have linked this to the flurry of accusations and counter-accusations that trailed her person following the exit from the prime post, others are of the opinion that she is deliberately keeping a low profile. Even in Abuja, she is hardly seen socialising.

In her halcyon days, Toyin Ndiomu was one of the most eligible spinsters in town on account of her beauty and family pedigree. Her father, Rear Admiral Olu Omotehinwa (retd.) was murdered during the late Gen. Sani Abacha regime. Her aunt, Mrs. Charis Onabowale, owns Mama Cass restaurant.

She was what you would refer to as a silver spoon kid. Highly sought after by the opposite sex, she was romantically linked to some big names including the son of a former Secetary-General of the United Nations.

After the collapse of her first marriage, she went low profile and got remarried to Patrick Ndiomu, a big player in the oil and gas industry.

Toyin, who never fails to express her religious beliefs on the social media, is an On-Air Personality at iGroove Radio, an online radio station.

It was a gathering of society bigwigs considering the fact that some celebrities had travelled to London for Toyin Saraki’s 50th birthday party. For the CEO EbonyLife Television, life indeed starts at 50. Known to host grand events, Mosunmola Abudu pulled all stops to make her 50th birthday a memorial.

After a cocktail at the lobby of the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, guests were ushered into the hall which had a Victorian setting for dinner. The party almost turned a carnival when artistes took turns to perform. Tiwa Savage; Chindinma; Nyanya; Ara and a host of others serenaded guests.

Mo’s mother stood out as she looked many years younger than her age.

The party, which held last weekend, was a roll call of who-is-who. In attendance were the governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, his wife, Obioma; Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko; CEO Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko, former Attorney-General/Minister of Justice, Henry Ajumogobia; actresses, managing directors of banks and many others.

Ezinne Akudo’s upbeat lifestyle

Though her reign is over one year old, she still remains Miss Nigeria 2013. A graduate of Law from Abia State University, Ezinne, who is yet to finish from the Law School, is one of the most socialising queens in this clime. Always impeccably dressed, she attends several society events and does not go about with her crown and sash.

Unlike some reigning queens, she wears jeans and T-shirts to events and lets down her hair at grooves. She was spotted at the 50th birthday shindig of Mo Abudu last weekend in Lagos. Dressed in a floor-length dress, she was the cynosure of eyes at the well-attended party.

Quite amiable, many wonder how long Ezinne will remain Miss Nigeria now that Elohor Aisen, CEO Beth Models, has dumped the franchise of the national beauty pageant.

One of the guests present was branding maestro, Leke Alder and his wife, Morenike, who is a corporate brand executive. Many will recollect that the duo got married two years ago following the crash of Leke’s first marriage to Omolola. The union, which was blessed with kids, hit a brick wall to the surprise of many.

At the party, the couple who turned up in fine attire were at ease with each other as well as the assemblage of guests that savoured the ambience of the venue alongside them.

Nkiru Anumudu, daughter as trendsetters

This Igbo-born socialite is unarguably one of Nigeria’s most expensively dressed women. Her exclusive taste in clothes can be viewed in the array of high-end designers she patronises. Also one of Lagos most famous socialites alongside her husband, Willie, who sits atop Globe Motors, the former seems to have passed on the baton to her daughter.

Always impeccably dressed, the younger Anumudu is not taking it easy in the style department either and wears expensive items and accessories like her mother. Though many say hers are not as expensive as her mother’s who buys latest editions of fashion items, the Anumudus have indeed staged the platform for a style war. Both mother and daughter were sighted recently at a fashion meet in Lagos and they looked gorgeous.

Koko is Senator Florence Ita-Giwa’s daughter who wedded last weekend in Lagos. One re-occurring question asked by some of the guests at the church wedding was the identity of the grey-haired foreigner who walked the bride down the aisle.

He was later revealed to be Mr. Bernard Kahlil, a very good friend of the mother of the bride. A Lebanese, Mr. Kahlil, was all smiles as he bonded with the bride and carried out the role of the father of the bride perfectly. He walked hand-in-hand with Koko before handing her over to her husband, Chimaobi Shawcross-Obioha Jnr. The Lebanese was said to have also played a prominent role during the traditional marriage rites, which took place at the bride’s hometown in Cross-River State penultimate week.

It was the 40th birthday dinner held in honour of Yeye Bush-Alebiosu. Though meant to be low-key, the roll call of guests at the high-octane event, which took place at the Federal Palace Hotels, Lagos, indicated otherwise.

Her husband, Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, a two-term legislator at the National Assembly, Abuja, deemed it fit to host a few friends, associates and family members to a sumptuous banquet. Held penultimate week, the dinner had in attendance Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa; her husband, Segun; Senator Ganiyu Solomon; Senator Gbenga Obadara and many others.

Yeye, who runs Manners Matter, a youth etiquette consultancy firm, was the cynosure of eyes in her champagne attire. She went about the hall hand-in-hand with her stylish and brilliant husband, and made sure all guests, had fun.

More than a week after Toyin Saraki staged a talk-of-town 50th birthday shindig in London, highpoints of the star-studded celebration still echo on. There was a surprise appearance and performance by American superstar, Neyo, who serenaded the guests with some of his popular hit songs. Despite the fact that the party almost turned out to be a political gathering of sorts, the ever-stylish birthday girl, who established the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, a pan-African maternal health and well-being charity, could not resist dancing, much to the admiration of all the guests present. Looking exquisite in her attire, which fitted her like a glove, Mrs. Saraki exuded poise quite effortlessly.

For billionaire businessman, Chief Razak Okoya, his appearance at most social activities is not complete without his wife, Shade. Since the 74-year-old got married to her some years ago, he hardly steps out on any occasion without his 37-year-old wife. Always together and posing for snapshots, it’s obvious they are still smitten with each other, the marital years notwithstanding.

Shade, who recently earned an honorary doctorate degree from an American university, is always dressed to the nines in trendy attire and accessories. She would never leave her husband’s side for a second at any event. Recently, the couple attended the Elite Model Show together in Lagos and wore same white attire. They were a delight to paparazzi who took turns to take their pictures as they posed on the red carpet.
