Former Anambra State governor, Andy Uba, may not be lending his voice to the happenings on the political scene but he is still visible on the social scene.

The good-looking former aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose showing on the social scene in Lagos and Abuja is far and in between, was a guest at the recent wedding ceremony hosted by the chairman of Nepal oil and gas, Chief Ekeoma Ekeoma in Abia State.

Andy, who strolled into the venue amid cheers from his admirers, looked dapper in his outfit.

Adaobi Nwakuche’s glow

In local parlance, Adaobi Nwakuche is one of those referred to as a ‘Lagos big girl’. Adaobi, who used to ply her trade in the insurance industry, became popular many years ago on account of her exploits on and off the social scene.

She made an even bigger impact when she wedded Fred Nwaeme at a multi-million naira wedding that was graced by the likes of Aliko Dangote and Olorogun Otega Emerhor. Although the union did not stand the test of time, she has since moved on.

Still single, Adaobi was sighted recently and she looked very refreshed. There are unconfirmed talks of a new man in her life.

Otunba Alex Onabanjo had been in the limelight long before his daughter, Moji Akinkunmi, got married to one of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo’s son, Gbenga. A time-honoured member of the social establishment, Onabanjo, whose business interests include media and tourism, has not been socialising like it was the norm in the past.

These days, he records a zero-presence at gigs that ordinarily, he would have made an enviable presence at.

A thoroughbred professional, Lanre Babalola, unlike his father, Chief S.O Babalola, was relatively unknown. That was before his appointment as Minister of Power in December 2008. He left office March 2010 when President Goodluck Jonathan had a cabinet reshuffle.

Prior to that, Lanre plied his trade at Lead Bank where he was in charge of the public sector and infrastructure department. Later, he transferred his services to the   Bureau of Public Enterprises in November 2001 as head of the power sector team.

A widower, he was married to late Abimbola, the eldest daughter of socialite, Lanre Ojora. His wife was one of the victims of the Bellview plane crash which occurred in 2005. While it is not clear if he has remarried, the former minister has, since his exit from office over four years ago, maintained a low profile.

It is no longer news that the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, was in Ogun State penultimate weekend to celebrate with the paramount ruler of Ijebuland. The affable state chief executive arrived the venue midway into the proceedings and shared a table with the celebrator and other dignitaries.

While making his speech, he regaled guests with how he is a son of the soil and not a guest as most people thought. While tracing his ancestry, he went further to say his great grandmother, Princess Adebukola Fidipote, was of Ijebu extraction and only married a Bayelsan.

Contemporary gospel artiste, Kenny Saint Best, can be likened to a socialite. Apart from being in the limelight on account of her singing prowess, she has a predilection for gracing high-profile parties. In the past, she used to attend parties in company with fellow artiste, Essence. Then, the pair made it a tradition to keep each other’s company at functions.

Those who have watched KSB, as she is popularly addressed, will notice a change in her routine. These days, she finds greater pleasure in accompanying her elder sister, Mrs. Moji Dokpesi, to first-rate events thus leaving Essence, out of the equation.

In the past weeks, the duo has being sighted at no less than three parties including the Okoya/Akala wedding and Awujale of Ijebuland’s 80th birthday party. However, those who are in the know whispered that the new trend cannot be divorced from KSB’s resolution to embrace politics.

Mulatto beauty and University of Lagos graduate, Marifa Whyte, launched into the big scene a few years ago. Apart from frequenting elitist events, she sought to solidify her social leanings when she launched the Savers Q discount card company amid pomp.

Marifa, whose lineage is not known to many, went a step further when she found love with an older man whose baby she had almost two years ago. While it is not known if the duo have tied the knots albeit secretly or otherwise, what is incontestable is how the multimillionaire father of her son has affected a turnaround in her fortunes.

She now travels to western countries on a frequent basis and lives in a palatial mansion situated in a posh part of town. She is often chauffeured in state-of-the-art automobiles whenever she is in Nigeria. That is not to forget her luxury wear and accessories.

Married to Sandra Solebo, one of the Edozien sisters, Femi was sort of a household name on the social scene. Good looking with a rich dress routine, he has a carriage not many men can boast of.

At some point, he seemed to be everywhere with his wife. Then, no major celebration on the island was deemed complete without his presence. The same cannot be said now as his social life is a far cry from what obtained in the past.

Not a small fry, she caters for the fashion needs of elite who can afford her exquisite designs.

Happily married to Folabi, the designer, whose fashion house is christened, Odio Mimonet, seems to have dropped out of the social radar. Unlike her contemporaries whose fashion houses are constantly in the news, little or nothing has been heard about her. Even her younger sister, Alima Muazu, who ventured into accessories design, may have found a new interest.

In addition to conferring chieftaincy titles on the likes of Otunba Alex Onabanjo and Shade Tinubu-Ojo, to mention but a few, world renowned artiste, King Sunny Ade was on hand to entertain guests. Until she dropped out of circulation a little over a year ago, Neya, who is easily the most prominent of former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu’s children, was always in the news.

An ardent user of the social media, she courted attention via this channel. She was known to put up attention-grabbing images of herself at frequent intervals. Her failed relationship with oil and gas big boy, Chima Anyaso, also put her in the spotlight.

Rumoured to have opened a spa in Abuja early last year, mum has been the word from this once-upon-a-time glamour girl.

The First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, loves fashion and she does not hide it. At official and non-official functions, she tries to look her best. Although she has been criticised several times for making wrong fashion choices, she does not seem deterred by the opinion of her critics.

Recently, one of her pictures has been trending on the social media. In this picture, she is seen wearing what looks like a pair of reading glasses while a sunshade dangles simultaneously from her dress. While many have risen to her defence by saying both serve two different purposes, others are of the opinion that the other, which was not in use, could have been tucked away in its case while awaiting usage.
