She is a successful entrepreneur in the real sense of the word.  Recently, Ify Ighodalo hosted a very classy celebration when she had the crème de la crème of the society grace the corporate launch of her company’s showroom.

It was an opportunity for Ify, who shies away from the limelight, to put on display, her good looks and high fashion sense. Married to Asue Ighodalo, Ify seems to have come out of her cocoon since that particular occasion. She was sighted at a birthday party in Lagos and of course, she looked resplendent in her attire.

Sometime last year, the billionaire businessman staged a multi-million dollar wedding for his son in Dubai. The talk about the wedding is yet to die down more than six months after it held. Guests were flown to Dubai first-class and lodged in some of the city’s most expensive hotels at no cost to them.

The sheer opulence that characterised the wedding   also generated some uproar. This, it was rumoured, must have led to the bride’s father, Ambassador AbdulKadri Fari’s, redeployment from the   Ministry of Petroleum Resources, where he was the Permanent Secretary.

One of the pretty daughters of Otunba Alex Onabanjo, Moyo Makanjuola, is married to fellow silver spoon and polo player, Bode Makanjuola.

Many will recollect that the duo tied the knot about eight years ago and were blessed with a baby girl in 2012, after nearly seven years of marriage.

A few years ago, she joined the bandwagon of designers in Nigeria. Her label, Kareema Mak, made an attempt at registering its presence on the fashion scene. Already, people are wondering what has become of that vision.

Success has many friends. This popular maxim came to life again last weekend at a social event in Lagos, which attracted the presence of the crème de la crème of the society. An elitist function, newly-appointed minister, Musiliu Obanikoro, was a guest. His first major outing since the Senate confirmed him as a ministerial nominee, Obanikoro became the centre of attraction as soon as he arrived the venue of the wedding. The shouts of ‘Congratulations!’ followed by hugs, backslaps and posing for pictures, went on for several minutes before he eventually took his seat. After that, his table became a Mecca of sorts.

Accomplished Senior Advocate of Nigeria and perhaps one of Nigeria’s most stylish men, Eyimofe Atake, is gradually making a re-entry into the social scene. Together with his amiable wife, Dorothy, both have constantly shunned the party scene in the last few years. Making few and far between appearances, the couple stole the show at the Ibru wedding last weekend. Looking dapper in his wear, Eyimofe’s charisma seeped through the fabric of his clothing. His wife also looked no less ravishing.

Cecilia Ibru embraces jollity

Fondly referred to as the amazon of the banking industry, Cecilia Ibru’s story in the banking industry is one that still confounds many. For many years, she directed the affairs of former Oceanic Bank and was variously applauded for her seeming proficiency until she had to deal with allegations of financial impropriety.

Rising from the doldrums of that particular incident, Ibru is gradually finding her feet in the social circuit. Many will recollect that she made a not-so-brief appearance at the wedding of the son of a media entrepreneur last year. Still fascinated by weddings, she attended another wedding last weekend. Need we say she was at home with guests and proceedings? She also seemed to have shed some weight, in addition to looking well-cared for.

This is a piece of good news for those who are conversant with their story. Kunle and Pamela Adedayo own Tastee Fried Chicken, an eatery with many branches in Lagos. Last September, they lost their only child, Bunmi Adedayo, who battled a brief illness.

Since then, Pamela, who was known to be a socialite, eased out of the social scene. But last week, she resurfaced. It was at the Legacy Ball hosted in Lagos by the Aboderin family to commemorate the 30th memorial anniversary of the late Punch publisher, Chief Olubunmi Aboderin. Dressed in black attire with silver embellishments, she looked trim and her skin glowed. This was her first major public outing since the sad incident took place.

In his 30s, the late Bunmi Adedayo, who until his death was an executive director at TFC, schooled in the United States of America where he earned several degrees.

Erastus Akingbola comes out to play

Until he hit troubled waters, Erastus Akingbola was one of the most celebrated managing directors in the banking sector. He was the MD of the now defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc.

Not alone in his predicament, Akingbola, alongside his wife, Anthonia, fizzled out of the social radar. Except for a few court appearances here and there, he gave the social circuit a wide berth for many years. This was the situation of things until last weekend, when he decided to shake off his toga of obscurity. He was one of the numerous VIP guests who attended the Olanipekun/Martins wedding. Dressed in full traditional attire, not a few guests were surprised to see him. His spirited attempts to evade the paparazzi almost came to nought as they were constantly on his trail.

These days, the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, Anna Banner, appears to be courting more publicity. Though not unusual for her office, it is unlike what obtained in the early days of her reign. Now, her amplified visibility on the social scene cannot be ignored. She has shed her toga of timidity and joined the high-flyers on the social scene.

A resident of the oil-rich city of  Port Harcourt, it is no longer out of place to find her in Lagos attending grooves; this she has done in the last few weeks. Barely 20, the light-skinned beauty was recently hosted to a groove by socialite cum entrepreneur, Frank Okamigbo.

Terry Omorodion is a big player in the oil and gas industry but unlike some of his ilk, he makes no noise about his wealth. Of a laudable pedigree, Terry came to notice after he staged a superlative birthday party when he clocked four decades. At the party, which held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, he ‘imported’ dancers from the far East and guests went away with luxury gift items. His sister, Lisa Omorodion, a budding actress, also announced her presence on the social scene when she premiered her first movie, ‘First Cut’. The well-attended movie premiere gulped several millions of naira and attendees smiled home with luxury gift items worth several thousands of naira.

Call them veteran socialites and you are not far from the truth. Lagos high chief, Otunba Adekunle Ojora and his wife, Olori Ojuolape, are longstanding members of the social circuit. Their prominence spans several decades.

Until they suffered a major loss a few years ago, the adorable pair spent ample time honouring family and friends with their presence at celebrations. This love was reciprocated in ample measure.

The duo expectedly slowed down on their social engagement after the untimely death of their eldest son, Gbegi Ojora. The devastating loss took a definite toll on their social life, which they are steadily recovering from. Recently, they attended a wedding in company with each other and both looked regal and relaxed.

Until recently, she was the Managing Director, M-NET Africa. Pretty, elegant and very down-to-earth, many artistes, young entrepreneurs and journalists would tell you that Biola Alabi  is just like the girl next door—no airs around her.

The brain behind some of the content on the paid TV channel, she was full of life penultimate week during the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. Held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, the native of Akure, Ondo State, who is a Lagosian by marriage, was the cynosure of all eyes.

Dressed in a red floor-length dress made by IconicInvanity, she not only dazzled all, she was present with her mother and younger sister. At the after-party, it was an elated Alabi who introduced them to friends and well-wishers.

Meanwhile, a visit to her Instagram page revealed the youthful side of the Mnet boss. She not only uploads picture frequently, she converses with a handful of Nollywood actors, fashion designers and make-up artists.

When Kemi Adewunmi turned 50 a few months ago, not a few people doubted the authenticity of her age on account of her looks, which many will agree, belie her age.

Lovely-skinned and pretty, Adewunmi, who is not a stranger to the limelight, seems to have gained a new fervour for socialising. At least, since she turned 50. Like fine wine, Adewunmi, who has gotten better with age, has been sighted at many celebrations lately looking glamorous.

Remember him? He was a member of the upwardly mobile crowd and made the list of eligible bachelors. Call him a man-about-town if you like and you are not far from the truth. In addition, he was the editor of a well-known magazine.

His fame burgeoned when word filtered into town that he was on the verge of tying the knot with Lara Rawa, another celebrated face on the social scene. Though things did not exactly work out between them, the romance produced a baby girl. Years after, mum has been the word from Adeji who has since zeroed out of view. Word has it that he now resides in New York.
