Other side of Justice Olubunmi Oyewole

He is the judge who has fearlessly jailed several prominent members of the society. Everyone knows that he does not deal lightly with fraud cases in his court.

By virtue of Oyewole’s antecedent, many people expect him to be stern-looking and tough-talking. Last weekend, he was one of the several guests who attended the wedding of Feyisitan Phillips, son of the Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Ayotunde Phillips.

Not only was he all smiles, he interacted freely with all and sundry including paparazzi whom he posed for enthusiastically.

Those who are conversant with the Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Ayotunde Phillips and her sister, Justice Funmilayo Atilade, know that they share a strong bond.

Incidentally, the latter will succeed the former when she attains the statutory retirement age of 65, next year. At Phillips son’s wedding last weekend, the duo once more put on display, their love for each other.

Sadly, they used to be a trio until their look-alike youngest sister, who was a former headmistress, UNILAG Staff School, Mrs. Yinka Adewusi, passed on in the 90s.

The maxim, ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, holds true for Ogun State First Lady, Olufunso Amosun. Married to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, the mother of five took time off her busy schedule last weekend, to attend a concert in Lagos.

Fun-loving and stylish, she was one of the VIP guests at the Classic FM Valentine Concert which held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island. Attired in a hip fashion, she was accompanied to the event by some members of her family and aides. On numerous occasions, she was sighted swaying tenderly on her seat, without attracting attention to herself or her office.

A few months ago, Rivers State First Lady, Dame Judith Amaechi, dropped out of view. Her lessened presence at state and private functions worried not a few. Gone were the days when her pictures made the media rounds.

While speculations were still rife as regards her disappearance, the dark-skinned beauty resurfaced at a function hosted recently by the Rivers State Ministry of Education in Port Harcourt. Looking radiant and refreshed, Judith, who was colourfully dressed in African print, sat by her husband while the event lasted.

Femi Otedola’s new look

Unarguably, Femi Otedola is one of Nigeria’s richest entrepreneurs. His business interest, which includes oil and gas, has earned him a place in the nation’s economic sector.

But the billionaire business tycoon is not known to experiment with his looks. Most times, he loves to play safe and favours white-coloured traditional wear.  Save for a few occasions, he rarely adorns western attire. Also, he is in the habit of sporting a clean-shaven look.

Last week in London, he debuted a new look at the first anniversary gala of the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation. As opposed to being clean-shaven, Otedola spotted a good measure of beard, which to a certain extent, highlighted his rugged good looks. Not a few were taken in by his spanking new look.

She is one of the famous Osime sisters, others include Ruth and Grace. Omome, who is just as stylish as her other siblings, is married contrary to what many believe. Her sister’s 50th birthday was an excellent opportunity to announce her marital status and meet her husband, Ola, who was also at the groove.

Well-mannered in the true sense of the word, he only had eyes for his wife.

One of the Edozien sisters, Linda Priddy, was one of the most sought-after spinsters in Lagos before she tied the knots with Dean Priddy. The short-lived union crashed irretrievably, but not before she was delivered of a baby boy.

Having parted ways with the father of her child, Linda demonstrated she had picked up the pieces of her life when she opened a world-class spa in a posh part of Lagos.

Linda, who has been missing from the social scene was recently sighted at a groove. Not a few were shocked at her chubby looks.

Call her a veteran on the social scene and you are not far from the truth. In her 50s, Rivers State-born Furo Hart used to be one of the most celebrated members of the social scene. Many years of diminished activity on the party arena caused her fame to dwindle.

Recently, she stepped out at a party in Lagos looking quite glamorous. Her stunning attire didn’t fully concealed the tell-tale effects of ageing which have taken slightly a toll on her once-upon-a-time exotic looks.

Sheriff Shagaya’s demeanour

He is the eldest son to billionaire businesswoman, Hajia Bola Shagaya. A lesson in humility, Sheriff, whose business interests include oil and gas, is married to Maryam, Bamanga Tukur’s daughter. It was a talk-of-the-town wedding in 2010 and it spanned at least two major cities in Nigeria. Also, it had in attendance, the crème de la crème of the society including Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

In spite of his affluent background, the father of one is a lesson in modesty. Recently, he was a guest at the Lagos Polo Club 2014 tournament. Indeed, he put his humility on display. His courteous conduct, more than his pedigree, surely endeared him to not a few ladies, who obviously had their eyes on him.

Call her an ‘oil and gas big girl’ and you are not far from the truth. Dark-skinned and lovely Caroline Olaseinde for many years plied her trade in the oil and gas industry where she earned a reputation many of her peers can only dream of. She was a manager with Exxon Mobil.

A successful professional, her social life, like her career, did not suffer a lull. She took many by surprise a few years ago when she tied the knots with Captain Lanre Rhodes. The union which was contracted in a hush-hush manner was soon blessed with twin girls.

Since turning 50 late last year, Caroline, who celebrated by hosting friends to a destination groove in London, seems to have enacted her love for parties. These days, she frequents parties and was a sight to behold on the dance floor at Ruth Osime’s 50th birthday shindig.

That Tony Elumelu is married to a beautiful woman, Awele, is not in doubt. His wife, a thoroughbred professional, was one of the guests at the UBA CEO Awards night. She came to the event in company with her husband and shone in a green evening dress that did justice to her silhouette. The camaraderie that exists between husband and wife was infectious and was evident for all to see. While the event lasted, they had only eyes for each other.

This quintessential pair is your typical red carpet couple. They would easily make the list of the most glamorous couple on the social arena. Why? They have all it takes to turn heads. Often found in company of each other, the pair has an exhilarating dress culture that stands them out and counts to their advantage.

Recently, they were guests at a party and briefly diverted attention from proceedings. Many remarked how Feyi looked a lot younger, having dropped a few shirt sizes.

Recently, one of Nigeria’s leading banks hosted the financial institution’s annual award ceremony. The event, which held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, had in attendance, distinguished personalities from within and outside Nigeria. Some of the guests included the bank’s former head, Tony Elumelu and his wife; Oba Otudeko; Seni Adetu; Onari Duke; Sarah Sosan; Timi Alaibe; Dele Momodu and a handful of the bank directors, who  came with their spouses.

At the event, former Ogun State governor, Aremo Olusegun Osoba and former deputy governor, Lagos State, Sarah Sosan, were seated on the same table. It was interesting to watch the duo chat the night away like long lost siblings.

Temidayo, who schools abroad, has not only inherited her mother’s good looks, she also possesses her good fashion sense.

Former Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Amos Adamu, may not be in the news unlike what obtained a few years ago; but his sons, Ezekiel and Samson, are.

This is occasioned by the young men’s giant strides in their endeavours. Both in their 30s, the duo, who bear a striking resemblance to their father, have done very well for themselves. While Ezekiel, the older of the duo, runs a thriving event outfit, Samson owns Kinetic Sports and is the organiser of the beach soccer tournament, COPA Lagos.

Grace Egbagbe mellows

That former NTA director, Grace Egbagbe, is one of the matriarchs of high society is incontestable. For many decades, she has held the social scene by the jugular on account of her socialising skills, style, as well as ageless looks.

In her 50s, the mother of two, until recently, was a prominent face at celebrations hosted by family and friends. Although this is not her first time of taking a hiatus of this kind, Egbagbe, who was in a celebrated relationship with Lanre Nzeribe, has taken yet another extended break from happenings on the social scene. This has caused her to be absent from major celebrations hosted by some of her close friends. Those who are accustomed to her routine are of the opinion that she is currently resident abroad where she is taking a well -deserved rest.
