Uche Nwadison’s humility

A foremost event planner with years of experience, Uche Nwadison is known to opt for classy events that bring to fore her ingenuity. Although she is not loud, preferring her works to speak for her, Uche, as many love to call her, has put together not a few events and constantly gets the brief for many others.

While she is in the industry of making parties happen, she is also in the habit of showing up only where it matters. A fact that makes it difficult to tag her as a reveller. However, not many people know that she is a sister to Nkechi Okocha, wife of former Super Eagles captain, Jay Jay Okocha.

She is the former First Lady of Lagos State. Her stoic comportment in public has always served as an inspiration to many young women in Nigeria. Always appearing as a symbol of feminine strength and grace, it was a surprise to many when the wife of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, got emotional recently.

It was at the 2013 edition of Women of Wellness, a cancer awareness charity ball held in Lagos.  Deeply touched by the story of the United Kingdom based beauty therapist, Eryca Freemantle, Tinubu demonstrated a side to her that was rarely seen in public.

Freemantle told the guests that she had been a survivor of a fatal accident,   five fibroid operations, breast cancer and hip replacement.  At the end of her story, Tinubu and other dignitaries including the First Lady of Delta State, Roli Uduaghan, gave Freemantle a bear hug. It was at that point that Tinubu revealed a part of her that struggled with low self-esteem as a young child.

It is no longer news that beauty entrepreneur, Toyin Alakiu, has moved on and has since been remarried to Debo Collins. Those who are familiar with the former’s story will recall that she was married to socialite, Tayo Alakiu, for close to two decades before calling it quits about three years ago.

Tayo was been romantically linked with Edo State-born Rhoda Eweka and Kehinde Ayoku who bore him two children in quick succession. Rising from the ruins of her former marriage, Toyin is back on the grind. These days, she attends functions in company with her spouse who dotes on her. A few weeks ago, they attended an event sponsored by Hennessey where they acted like love-struck teenagers and had eyes for only each other.

Remember him? He used to be married to Ghanaian born Nana De Souza. They parted ways and he is now remarried to Nike, one of the daughters of late socialite, Chief Hilario Babs-Akerele.

Until a few years ago, he was quite prominent on the social scene. For reasons best known to him, he slowed down on attending shindigs hosted by his ilk only to resurface at a store opening. Even his wife is no longer as visible as she used to be in the past.

In her 60s, Gladys Ndubuisi-Kanu is the glamorous wife of Rear Admiral Ndubuisi-Kanu, a former military governor of Imo and Lagos States respectively. Light-skinned and ostentatious in her dressing, she was the cynosure of eyes when she turned up at a bank situated in Lagos Island last Wednesday.

Apart from her glowing complexion, one other thing that made certain she was duly noticed were the crystals which she accessorised her clothes with, coupled with her shoes. Even her nails were accessorised with gold crystals that ensured she shone like a million stars.

Saying Jimi Mohammed is the most prominent of the children of the interim spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed is like stating the obvious.

The young man, who is married to Idowu, one of the daughters of the late Solomon Ayoku, emerged from his father’s shadow long ago and has carved a niche for himself in the elite circles. Judging by his achievements and burgeoning fame, he has done well for himself. Little wonder, his friends rally round him at functions.

Her name might not necessarily ring a bell but she belongs to the young elitist crowd. Her father, Lateef Adams, is a foremost fashion designer, who has clothed several celebrities and owns award-winning fashion house, Latris. His wife, Risi, is also a famed lace merchant.

The dark-skinned beauty, like every young female, has had her own fair share of emotional troubles. Many will recollect that she was an item with the very light-skinned son of a serving senator. All hopes of walking down the aisle with him were dashed when he married a budding designer. Very recently, Lateefat bid farewell to spinsterhood when she married Kola Laniyan. Her parents hosted the crème of society to a lavish wedding.

Former Miss Marquis, her fame pales beside that of her children— Oyin, Paddy, Bella, and Jide. She was married to Globacom chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga, for many years, before they parted ways. This was long before he struck gold in the telecommunication industry.

Prim and proper in her ways, she is not your regular reveller and has an extreme dislike for flaunting her status. Preferring to go unnoticed, she made a rare appearance last weekend at a wedding in Lagos looking all glamed up and attractive.

On the island, these sisters are quite popular for more reasons than one. The foreign nationals upped their game after they set up a restaurant on the island. Famed for their beauty and entrepreneurial spirit, there is widespread talk that they own more than a business venture and this probably accounts for the jet set lifestyle they are accustomed to.

Flaunting the latest designer wear and matching accessories, not much is known about their background which they guard jealously. They have even refused to let their love life come under scrutiny, thus leaving room for speculations on who rocks their hearts.

Richard Akerele’s youthful disposition

Save for his greying hair, there is nothing to suggest that the CEO/Managing Director of Aviation Services and Logistics PLC, Richard Akerele, is nearing his 60s. A social bird, every other thing about him suggests he is young at heart.

Accomplished in the authentic sense of the word, he flaunts a style that many, who are decades younger, would love to emulate wholly.  A lot of times, he turns up at functions dressed in modern, yet youthful fashion that confounds his peers. He was a guest at the opening of a luxury store hosted by Tope Edu and as usual, he looked dandy!

That one of Nigeria’s foremost industrialists, Alhaji Rasaq Okoya, is a man of many parts is not in doubt. The founder of Eleganza Group of Companies is passionate about many things including philanthropy.

In addition to playing host to Nigerians from all walks of life during major Islamic festivals at his palatial residence in Ajah, Lagos, not many knew that his milk of kindness flows all year round. A visit to his Oluwanisola Estate home on any Friday will reveal a multitude of persons including the lowly being fed and handed cash and material gifts.

The delightful couple made quite a showing penultimate week when they attended a friend’s store opening in company with each other. Of course, they almost stole the shine off other couples present.

Seyi Tinubu celebrates

Until his sister, Folashade Ojo, was named the Iya Oloja General of Nigeria, Seyi Tinubu could be said to be the most prominent of former Governor Bola Tinubu’s children. A bit controversial too, Seyi’s lavish lifestyle is one that ensures he does not escape notice. A graduate of a prestigious university in the United Kingdom, he not too long ago graduated from the Nigeria Law School. Not one to allow such an attainment slip by unnoticed, Seyi has been on a celebration spree. A lover of fine automobiles, he recently added a Sports Utility Vehicle to his fleet of cars.

Roli’s new look

Sometime ago, the Delta State First Lady, Roli Uduaghan, took to wearing a look that many chose to describe as plain Jane. Devoid of make-up and jewellery, the dark-skinned mother of two attended some high profile events dressed so, which was very unusual for her office.

But at the Access Bank PLC Xmas party cum send-forth for Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede last weekend, she chose to differ when she arrived the venue of the strictly black-tie event unusually garbed. This time, her brightly coloured evening dress agreed with her make-up. She was in company with her husband, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Even though, Alakiu is reportedly in another longstanding relationship with a now deceased multi-millionaire’s daughter, delightfully pretty Rhoda was in her finest elements at the occasion.
