Forbes-listed billionaire businesswoman, Folorunsho Alakija added another feather to her cap recently when Yaba College of Technology  conferred her with an honourary fellowship award at the institution’s 28th convocation ceremony. An elated and gaily dressed Alakija stormed the venue of the convocation in company with her family and friends who also witnessed the conferment firsthand.

Perhaps owing to her status, she received a lot of attention from her hosts, particularly the students who were more interested in catching a glimpse of her than watching the proceedings.

She was a First Lady in Akwa Ibom State. Indeed, she is a lesson in sophistication. In her 50s, the much-admired fashion designer turned television presenter was sighted at a function in Lagos recently. Many a guest marvelled at her carriage which spelt class.

Trim and shapely, the former owner of COLOURS, a fashion outfit, whose premises was  gutted by fire a few years ago, was comported and refined while relating with people who sat around her.

Cecilia Ibru makes showing

The embattled former Managing Director cum Chief Executive Officer of Oceanic Bank PLC, Cecilia Ibru, has been away from the social space since the outset of her travails. She was convicted of bank and securities fraud on October 8, 2010 by a former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Dan Abutu, in Lagos after she was arrested, detained and arraigned in court on a 25-count charge. In addition, she forfeited assets worth billions of naira to the government.

Handed a six-month prison term, she took a backseat thereafter and ceased to be a social bird. Perhaps in a bid to re-introduce herself into the social circuit, the 67-year-old made a rare appearance at a wedding in Lagos penultimate weekend. Looking refreshed, not a few of the guests were surprised to see her and many only masked their shock by going over to exchange pleasantries with her.

There is no gainsaying that Bisola Clark, the medical practitioner wife of Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, is blessed with good looks. Perhaps, what many fail to notice is how much she dotes on her husband.

Recently, the couple attended a wedding in Lagos, where she cut the picture of a committed wife.  Not only was she all over him, she was quick to lean towards him whenever the paparazzi focused their lens on them. Meanwhile, Clark savoured the attention coming his way and smiled occasionally.

Still keeping a low profile, she attended Caroline Olaseinde’s 50th birthday party in London and those who saw her attested to her ravishing looks which are still intact.

Legends in the Nigerian entertainment industry gathered at the Intercontinental Hotels, Lagos  last weekend  to pay tribute to the late Lady of Songs, Christy Essien Igbokwe, as her family launched her  11th and final album.

Present at the event were representatives of the governors of Lagos and Akwa Ibom states, plus several VIP personalities.

At the event, which featured dance, drama and a fashion show, Onyeka Onwenu stood out for a certain reason other than the fact that she is a colleague of the deceased.

She came to the event in company with this young man who hovered around her. While he was not dressed to look like a security detail or bodyguard, it was difficult to determine his role and relationship with her. However, the good-looking young man ensured he was not far away from her.

These days, she now steps out in the comfort of her own company unlike what obtained in the earlier days when she chose to attend functions in company with her mother. Since making her debut appearance on the social scene at the Dejonwo/Tokan wedding, there has been no looking back.

She has not always been the party type but at least she maintained a noticeable presence on the social scene, especially when it mattered.  Married to Yemi Cardoso, the chairperson of CITI Bank and a former commissioner in Lagos State, Bimbo, who is the eldest daughter of the late TOS Benson, seems to savour her quietude or how else can one explain her long-standing absence? The mother of triplets, who owns Party Perfect, was last seen at any major groove last year. That was at her daughter’s wedding to Ladi Alakija, son of Forbes-listed Folorunsho Alakija.

This former actress and model may have embarked on a nine-month course preparatory to becoming a mother for the third time.

The mulatto beauty, who is married to multimillionaire businessman, Musa Danjuma, was the host at a party held at her Parkview, Ikoyi home when her husband turned 63 lately. The mother of two boys was attired in a dress that depicted a bulge in her mid-section. This has since prompted insinuation that Caroline, who is at least 25 years younger than her husband, might pay a visit to the labour room in the coming months.

Ekeh’s ‘six pack’

Those who run into the Chairman of Zinox Group, Leo Stan Ekeh, will marvel at his ageless looks which belie his age. He is a lesson in healthy living. Nearer to 60 than 50, many are still in awe of his vigorous fit and energy even as a workaholic. Someone very close to him whispered that Stan had always been a teetotaller and abhorred cigarette from his early childhood. For one whose mother trained as a dietician, he eats right and also does exercises.

A soon-to-be grandfather, these days, when he chooses to dress in fitted clothes, it is difficult not to notice his toned abs many his age cannot boast of.

She is one of Nigeria’s brightest event planner and arrowhead of Zapphire Event. A lawyer by training, years, a lot of elites have benefitted from Funke Obruthe’s expertise over the years, yet she remains humble.

She walked into one of the very many events she puts together last week and the master of ceremony, on recognising her, gave her credit for the beautiful decor.

Funke, who evidently abhors taking credit for another person’s ingenuity, was quick to set the records straight. She immediately told the MC the beautiful decor was not her handiwork.
