Pretty and stylish, Biola Okoya is perhaps the most popular of the children of billionaire industrialist, Alhaji Rasaq Okoya. Previously married to Akin Johnson, she lay low for several years overseas.

After a long break from the social scene, she staged a comeback sometimes last year and has since graced several A-list parties,  garbed in resplendent attire and matching accessories.

In the 80s and 90s, David Kolawole Vaughan aka DAKOVA enjoyed a lot of press coverage owing to his burgeoning fame occasioned by his exploits in the fashion industry. Acting as clothier to several celebrities contributed to his success.

Long before the advent of the current crop of designers, he eased out of the scene to concentrate on his other interests that include politics and hospitality.

While he did not make an appreciable impact in the political arena, the same cannot be said for the hospitality business. In Abuja, he owned a nightclub which enjoyed the patronage of elites resident in the nation’s capital. However, since shutting shop, DAKOVA is no longer as visible as he used to be.

One of Nigeria’s prime hairstylists, Bobby Eke, has bounced back to reckoning. Bobby, who was a favourite of the likes of former First Lady of Lagos State, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, suffered a stroke in 2009. Friends rallied round him and he was flown abroad for treatment.  He returned home on completion of his treatment   and thereafter resorted to keeping a low profile while he recuperated.

Occasionally, one would find him playing a supervisory role at any of his branches but he rarely attended public events. He made a detour from the usual and did the unusual when he attended a hair forum penultimate week. Hard as he tried to evade notice, people kept going to exchange pleasantries with him.

Former Lagos State governorship aspirant and accomplished accountant, Bashorun JK Randle, ranks high in the social circuit even though he may have slowed down with time.

Articulate in his ways, the over-six-decades-old former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has been keeping a somewhat low profile in recent times. Those who ran into him recently at one of his rare appearances at a function, could not help but squeal and commend his gentlemanly manners which they tagged second to none. Of a rare pedigree, he did not fall short of impeccable conduct expected of his person.

Her name might not necessarily ring a bell but her father—Tunji Okusanya— would.  He was the late M.I.C boss, who died in a plane crash almost six weeks ago, alongside his son, Tunji Jnr.

Bolanle is the deceased’s first child. A renowned make-up artist, she is said to be currently fully involved in the running of the funeral company left behind by her father. Bolanle, who has been away for a while, was sighted at a recent House of Tara beauty bruncheon held  in honour of beauty and lifestyle enthusiasts. In a sombre mood and dressed in a black attire, she managed a few smiles while the event lasted.

El-Rufai gets a bash

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai, is known for his outspokenness. He is also one of the critics of the Federal Government.

Most of El-Rufai’s sentiments are expressed in his twitter handle and curiously, one of the titles he assigns to himself is, ‘Certified Ruffler of Feathers.’ Living up to the title, he recently ruffled feathers when he took a jibe at President Jonathan’s religious exercise.  On his twitter page, Rufai showed the president on his knees praying for many things, including the plea for university teachers to call off their strike action. Unfortunately for him, he received a strong condemnation from twitter followers for the caricature! He was chided for making mockery of a man praying to God.

One of Nigeria’s most distinguished matriarchs, Bola Kuforiiji-Olubi, is a woman of many parts. A one-time Minister of Commerce and Tourism, the erudite banker was the first female president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Nigeria.

Also celebrated for her stylish disposition and dubbed an amazon by many, Kuforiji-Olubi, a few years ago, dropped out of the social scene. While many speculations made the rounds regarding this, there was no official confirmation.

A few years shy of clocking 80, Kuforiji-Olubi made a detour from the usual when she turned up at a wedding recently. The gracefully ageing grandmother was decked out in a gorgeous outfit and matching accessories.

IG Abubakar grooves with wife

$

About three months ago, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, hosted the crème of society to an opulent wedding in Abuja when he took a new wife, Safiya. The wedding, which had all the trappings of glamour, still dominates discourse in the society.

The IG, who is not known to be a reveller, took many people by surprise last weekend when he attended the Vanguard publisher, Sam Amuka’s son’s wedding reception in Lagos. He was in company with his beautiful wife. It will be safe to say this was the couple’s first major appearance in Lagos, since they got married.

They were the cynosure of all eyes but an obviously reticent Safiya had to contend with the paparazzi as opposed to her husband who before now had become familiar with such attention.

It is no longer news that Usman Dantata, a cousin to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, wedded fellow silver spoon, Rukaiyah Indimi, last weekend. The talk-of-the-town wedding would go down in history as one of the most expensive nuptials in 2013.

Dangote, who was conspicuously missing at the celebration in Maiduguri, was in Lagos attending another wedding. However, he made up for his absence the following day when he hosted a reception in honour of the couple at The New Harrow Park Golf Club, Abuja.

Everyone who knew female rap artiste turned entrepreneur, Yetunde Alabi, known to fans as Sasha P, knew that she was a full-figured woman.  Blessed with smooth alabaster skin, she has always carried herself with a lot of grace. But it seems Sasha is set to embrace a slim figure. This much was evident when she appeared at the venue of an event over the weekend in Lagos. Sporting a black turtle-neck fitted gown, the cultural ambassador for Ekiti State looked trimmer and sexier. There was no doubt in the minds of all who saw her that she was very proud of her new figure. Not a few people also thought that it was the best she had looked in years.

One of the popular Osime sisters, Grace, has located her groove again.  In her 40s and still single, she is part of the upwardly mobile crowd in town and like her sisters, she is always adorned in expensive attire and accessories.

For reasons best known to her, she slowed down on the party scene and almost zeroed out of view save for a few appearances. Last weekend, she was one of the merrymakers at the Butterscotch Evenings in company with Adeola Adewunmi, another newsmaker.
