One of society’s matriarchs, Grace Egbagbe, is back from her long hiatus during which she was away, from the social arena. The mother of two, who was a former director at Nigerian Television Authority, went low profile for many months. Her conspicuous absence at gigs hosted by her ilk did not go unnoticed.

Last weekend, she attended a beauty pageant organised by Tony Ezenna’s Orange Drugs Limited, where she played a major role. She appeared to have trimmed down and looked younger than her age.

He is one of the wave-making elites in Abuja and Lagos. He made the headlines when his marriage to one of the daughters of Dr.Newton Jibunoh crashed irretrievably, soon after it was contracted. Although he has since remarried, he seemed to have adopted a low profile, contrary to what obtained in the past. These days, the trend appears to have been reversed. Already, this jolly good fellow has been sighted at a few functions.

Wura is one of the daughters of the late M.K.O Abiola and his equally deceased wife, Simbiat. A thoroughbred silver spoon, Wura, like her brother, Kola Abiola, is not known to attend parties at the drop of a hat. In fact, their appearances at gigs are far and in between.

Wura, who rarely steps out, made yet another exception to the rule when she attended a reception hosted by the Group Managing Director/CEO of United Bank for Africa, Phillip Oduoza and his wife, Jumai.

Though not a regular reveller, the lady who bears a striking resemblance to her father was at home with other guests.

Until a few years ago when he and his wife, Yinka Taiga, suddenly dropped out of circulation, the duo usually made the list of socialites in Lagos.

A successful business executive, Olorogun Moses Taiga went low profile soon after his wife was delivered of a set of quadruplets and she promptly relocated abroad. Also, his involvement in a long-drawn court battle could have contributed to his decision to withdraw from social activities.

Years after, he and his wife are yet to regain their pride of place on the social scene. Although a few months ago, she was said to have been in town to host the funeral of her parent and that was it.

An entrepreneur of note, Jide Adenuga is not content with being referred to as the son of one of Nigeria’s best-known business mogul, Dr. Mike Adenuga. The fine-looking young man, who is in his early 30s, opted to carve a niche for himself a few years ago and it has paid off tremendously.

The CEO of 3 Inclusive Ltd, not many gave him a chance when he launched his wine and champagne business. Successfully, he brought into Nigeria one of the most recognisable champagne brands in the world- The Montaudon and he is still reaping from this feat. Drawing from his innate management skills, the multi-million naira business has emerged a money spinning venture within a space of a few years.

These days, his business acumen more than his pedigree and good looks put together, endear him to the opposite sex.

In his 50s, Timi Alaibe is the former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission. While his tenure lasted, he was popular within and outside political circles and has remained so long after he left office.

He was widowed a few years ago when his wife, Alaere, died after battling a terminal sickness. Even though he is yet to give matrimony another shot, he was once rumoured to be in a relationship with a former beauty queen.

A good dresser who favours Niger Delta attire, he has upped his game. Apart from his growing love for suits, his choice in casual wear cannot be faulted. At a reception hosted in honour of the newly appointed Managing Director of the NDDC, Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia, he settled for a red polo shirt and geek glasses that shaved many years off his biological age.

Saying the immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, is a fun-loving man is stating the obvious.

The Kano State-born career banker, who has been at the centre of a rumpus, has evidently refused to allow it affect his social disposition. Last weekend, not a few people were surprised to see him at the movie premiere of Chimamanda Adichie’s “Half of a Yellow Sun.”

All smiles, not only was he the cynosure of eyes, he interacted freely with guests and nothing in his demeanour showed that he was troubled by his current predicament.

While her fans are impressed at the success she has recorded so far, the same cannot be said of her current stature. The mother of two was a guest at the premiere of “Half of a yellow sun” last weekend and those who saw her where stunned by her new look.

Dressed in a sequin dress, Lara looked rather matronly owing to the fact that she has put on a lot of weight.
